2. Copy ShakesPeer to the folder ’Applications’ on your hard drive.


On the first startup you will be asked if you would like to check for updates automatically on startup. Click yes.




1.While ShakesPeer is running, click the preferences window. Under [Identity] icon (looks like a person holding an ID) enter a nickname (don’t include anything with UCB in it). You can leave Email Address and File Description blank, but put Connection type to [LAN (T1)].
2.Still in the preferences window, click on the [Network] icon (looks like computers). For connection mode, put [Active Mode](Passive mode is for Wireless, eg. AirBears).
3.Still in the preferences window, click on the [Share] icon (a file in a hand). Choose a folder for your downloaded files and a different folder for incomplete files (in progress downloading). Also, please share what you download (add the downloads directory as a shared folder).Use the select button to select a folder for each. Note: ShakesPeer has default settings for this that are OK to use.Add folders/files to sharing to ’hash’ (index for upload). This may take time to fully update (10mins).
4.Still in the preferences window, click on the [Advanced] icon (gear). Enable everything except for [Keep backend server running in background] from the first 6 options.


5.To connect to the network, just go to ’File’, then select ’Connect to hub..’ and when the box pops up, type in 127.0.0.1:7314 and press OK.

6.Now that you’re connected to the hub, be sure to add us to your bookmarks. Doing so means that next time, you won’t need to use quick connect. Right-Click (Control-Click) on the any user in the userlist of the hub then select ’Bookmark This Hub’.

7.Now if you check the box beside the hub in your Bookmarks tab, you will automatically connect on startup of ShakesPeer.
